Pink is Perfect!

Over the past six months Ben has started to really enjoy the color pink and all things that go with it. He likes dresses. He likes princesses. To be honest he can rock a hair bow better than most girls his age. I know there are some that wouldn't approve of a little boy being into girly things, but we decided long ago that if our kids are happy we are doing the right thing. We pride ourselves on allowing our kids to be different. Different is good, right? If we were all the same what would the world be like? - These are questions we reiterate a lot in our house.

Note: we aren't new to this whole concept of wearing clothes generally made for the opposite gender. Josie at about the same age decided she preferred to wear boy clothes. But society seems a little more relaxed when it's a girl wearing a jersey and ball cap (Tomboy) versus a little guy rocking a hot pink dress.

For Halloween Ben wanted to be Gloria the Hippo from Madagascar. We never tried to talk him into being something else. Ben loved being Gloria (which by the way, wasn't much of a costume because the hat I ordered two weeks ago never showed up, but that's another story). Gray sweats, a tutu, and ballerina slippers was all there was to his costume and he was happy.

Maybe Ben's pink phase is just that... a phase. Or maybe in 30 years he'll still be rocking the color pink. Either way, Ben (just like Will and Josie) will always have his mom and dad's support. Pink is Perfect!

Big weeks for Bemis Boys

A few weeks ago (I'm a little behind on posts!) the boys went to the Dentist for the first time. It was the usual apprehensiveness from Will. The jump right in with both feet for Ben. I love that they are their own persons. The boys did a great job and got a good check up. High Fives all around.

That same week we went to the Circus! Billy and I can't remember if we went to the circus when we were younger... so this may have been a first for all five of us. Either way, it was fun. The kids sat in awe through the whole show. The cotton candy and popcorn helped. They loved the horses, camels, clowns, and dogs. Yes, there was a dog show.

Last week we had another week of firsts. I'm not sure if this first is something I should brag about. I will admit it's my fault that it happened too. We were at gymnastics getting ready to leave. I knew it'd be a bit before we'd get to have a potty break. I asked them who wants to go potty. Ben replied, "ummmm probably no." I smirked so then Will repeated the statement in a goofy voice to get the same response from me. (Always good for a laugh these two) So then I switched my tactic to one I knew would work and said, "Who wants to be first?!" It worked like a charm, they both ran to the potty. As they ran they stared to yell who was first and it was getting ugly as their voices rose higher with determination. I knew I needed a solution. I didn't want a scene. So... I taught them how to sword fight. They each stood at one side of the potty and took aim. It was working, both were happy they were first.  I apologize in advance to anyone who takes them to the potty in the near future.

Speaking of Gymnastics... they are having a blast! The same day as the sword story, they got to do the big trampoline with the support rope. I am sure there is a proper term for it, but I don't know it. See pictures below!

Another first from last week, the boys joined Josie and I for their first Friday Funday at the Playhouse. It was Chicken Little. They did such a good job. I'm so excited they can start joining Josie and me on these fun outings!

Ben, Josie, and Will at the circus!

Ben the brave... first boy in the chair.

Will was ready after he knew what to do.

The videos are of Ben at Gymnastics. Will was the very first to go, so I wasn't ready to record yet!
